🤷🏼‍♀️ The Problem

People with epilepsy often worry about uncontrolled seizures and medication risks. Their families are concerned about monitoring seizures and ensuring their loved ones' safety.

‣Foster a supportive community for epilepsy patients and caregivers to share experiences, resources, and emotional support.

🙅🏼‍♀️️ Challenge

Living with epilepsy involves managing unpredictable seizures and complex medications. Existing support systems often fall short in real-time assistance. Epify fills this gap with a seamless, user-friendly platform.

🫡 Objectives

‣Facilitate collaboration between patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals to optimize treatment plans and improve patient outcomes.

USER JOURNEY

By mapping out users' stories, I gained deeper insights into their perspectives, which helped me empathize with their challenges and design more effectively.

Discovery and Diagnosis

1

Michael and Emily notice unusual behaviors or symptoms in Daniel, prompting them to seek medical attention.

2

Michael experiences a mix of emotions, including worry, confusion, and urgency, as he navigates the process of seeking a diagnosis for Daniel's condition.

3

After consultations and medical tests, Daniel is diagnosed with epilepsy, leaving Michael with a mix of relief for having an answer and concern about what lies ahead.

Treatment and Management

4

Michael delves into researching epilepsy, medications, and treatment options.

5

Michael and his wife face challenges in coordinating Daniel's care between medical appointments, therapy sessions, and their own work commitments, leading to feelings of stress and exhaustion.

6

Keeping track of Daniel's medication schedule proves challenging for Michael and Emily amidst their busy lives, causing anxiety about missing doses and the potential impact on Daniel's health.

Adjustment and Advocacy

7

Michael experience highs and lows as they adjust to his new normal, finding moments of joy and connection with Daniel amid the ongoing challenges of managing his epilepsy.

8

Michael becomes an advocate for epilepsy awareness and support!

I want to know what is happening to my son.

At least right now, I know what is going on!

It looks like I have different options!

I don’t know how to manage everything!

I get used to it, I’m much more better to control everything!

I’m feeling so stressful for my son’s health!

OPPORTUNUTIES:

Research and Collaboration: Michael seizes opportunities to advance his understanding of epilepsy through ongoing research and collaboration with experts, aiming to uncover new insights and treatments that could benefit Daniel and others with the condition.

Joy and Connection: Despite the challenges, Michael finds joy and strengthens his bond with Daniel and Emily. They cherish quality time together, engaging in activities that bring them closer amidst the struggles of managing epilepsy.

Overwhelmed by Complexity: Michael, despite his psychology expertise, struggles to apply his knowledge to Daniel's epilepsy care.

Emotional Impact: Witnessing Daniel's seizures causes fear, helplessness, and anxiety for Michael and Emily.

Job-Related Stress: Their jobs add stress, complicating the tracking of Daniel's medication and seizures.

PAIN POINTS:

Michael, a design professor, and his wife Emily are committed to providing the best care for their 8-year-old son, Daniel, who was recently diagnosed with epilepsy after several seizures.

further iterations

For further iteration, I'm working on developing this idea and building the web app. Simultaneously, I plan to integrate it into an epilepsy wearable as a minimum viable product using Arduino sensors. Currently, I'm collecting qualitative, quantitative, and novel data about my wearable. My next step involves analyzing the data I've gathered from surveys and interviews, and then I'll begin sketching and ideating about my wearable. During this process, I learned how to conduct interviews, analyze data, and integrate it into design.

🤷🏼‍♀️ Why lilac?
I used lilac for the color scheme because it blends calming blue and vibrant purple, symbolizing peace and balance. As the universal color for epilepsy, it provides a soothing, approachable tone and avoids a sterile look, creating a user-friendly environment.

MAIN tYPOGRAPHY

Lilac - is a blend of calming blue and vibrant purple, often associated with peace, tranquillity, and emotional balance. It might provide a sense of tranquillity during stressful times while also offering a vibrant and hopeful outlook for managing epilepsy. At the same time, the universal colour of epilepsy is lilac that's why I wanted to use soft tones of lilac. It avoids being overly medical or sterile, creating a more approachable and user-friendly environment where people feel comfortable learning about and managing their epilepsy.
